Situated to the north of the strip, I chose the SLS based on this location and its proximity to The Las Vegas Convention centre, as I was taking part in a conference there. The beauty of this hotel is that it has a monorail station attached, 1 stop away from the convention centre and 3-4 stops away from the main hotels and hustle and bustle of Las Vegas. I purchased a 4 day pass for $32 aprox £28, you can even buy it in advance with Expedia no faffing around waiting on taxi’s, a great saving!!
Anyway back to the hotel, the SLS resort was last renovated in 2014, so it’s really up to date, on trend and has a great vibe about the place. This may sound strange but its a really great size hotel, around 1400 rooms I believe? Don’t quote me, in comparison to some of the bigger hotels which are around the 4000 room capacity. Can you imagine checking into the MGM or Caesars Palace at 3pm on a friday? Along with 4000 other people, at the SLS I was checked in and in my room to hotel pool party all within 30 minutes.
The hotel was previously The Sahara, one of the last remaining vintage “Rat Pack” casino-hotels, the likes of Striseland, Minelli and even The beatles have played here until The Sahara finally closed its doors in 2011. One of the SLS resort towers (The Lux tower) is actually going to be a stand alone property part of the W hotel chain. Either way they are both part of the Starwood group and a great way of accumulating SPG card points, but that’s a whole other blog!
The rooms are super trendy with very instagram friendly lighting rooms have been fabulously designed by Philippe Starck.
The facilities at the hotel include a great range of restaurants and coffee shops although a huge 24 hour drive through Starbucks is opposite, the pool area is awesome! Again I just wanted to emphasise why this hotel is now my firm favourite when in Vegas, the location and the nice size of the hotel mixed with an air of coolness about it and I don’t mean the air con.
I booked my stay at The SLS using Expedia, I always check with a cash back website first, such as Top Cashback to see if they have an offer with Expedia, oh and don’t forget to join Starwood Hotels & Resorts rewards programme, you can redeem them on lots or airlines too!
